Babies come in all different shapes and sizes and they all eat and drink different quantities. You may find that although the baby is still within the recommended weight range for this size, the next size up is more absorbent and has a better fit, especially at night.

Unlike standard disposable nappies, Bambo Nature contain no perfumes, lotions, deodorants or antioxidants, and they are 100% chlorine free and latex free, so they are much less likely to cause an allergic reaction. The Eczema Association of Australia has featured Bambo Nature nappies in their newsletter, and recommends them to parents of babies with eczema.
Anecdotally, we have had many parents try Bambo Nature nappies because their babies were suffering from nappy rash, and come back to tell us that the nappy rash has gone now that they're using Bambo Nature. This is exactly why Nordic Nappies was started!
Paediatricians recommend that newborn babies are changed 10-12 times per day (i.e. every 2-3 hours). As your baby gets older, they'll only need to be changed 6-8 times a day. Always make sure that you change your baby immediately that they have a dirty nappy.
It's a good idea to let your baby have some 'nappy free' time every day. In the warmer months, outside in the shade is ideal. In winter, just before bath time is probably best!
Yes, Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies have all the features you look for in a premium disposable nappy, but the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly. The nappies have been developed in close partnership with parents, meaning that the product is both practical and user friendly.
The nappies are ultra-thin, yet ultra-absorbent with a unique layer that draws wetness away from baby's skin, keeping baby dry and comfortable even with repeat wetting.
Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies keep your baby dry and comfortable, and help reduce your eco footprint.

In addition, further requirements for products carrying the Swan logo are:

- all raw materials are FDA approved;
- there are no optical brighteners;
- they are not chlorine bleached;
- there are no moisturisers, perfumes or lotions;
- there are maximum limits on energy consumption;

Do Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies contain SAPs (superabsorbent polymers)?
Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies contain a small amount of two kinds of SAPs, one of which is a starch based bio-superabsorbent which is 100% biodegradable. The second is a high quality, permeable superabsorbent made of acrylic polymer. The manufacturer, Abena, is currently working with suppliers to use only a starch based bio-superabsorbent, while still maintaining their excellent quality standards.
SAPs are necessary to ensure that nappies are absorbent, without being bulky. A nappy that did not contain SAPs would be bulky, meaning more landfill, and would not have the same ability to keep baby dry. You would need to use more nappies, and in turn, create more waste.
SAPs are approved by the FDA.
As with all products, as the technology improves, manufacturers are able to use more environmentally friendly alternatives.
Is the plastic packaging recycleable?
Yes, Bambo and Bambo Nature packaging is fully recyleable in your council recyling bin. It contains no environmentally harmful ingredients, so it can be incinerated safely. It's also made with renewable materials, in accordance with the guidelines of the Nordic Swan Eco Label.
Are Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies chlorine bleached?
Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies are 100% chlorine free.
Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies have been developed in close partnership with parents, and the manufacturer's extensive consultations with consumer research indicated that customers want products that are eco friendly, but that don't look or perform differently to a standard disposable. Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies therefore undergo an oxygen bleaching process, which is not harmful to the environment, and breaks down into oxygen and hydrogen. Back to top
What is the difference between Bambo and Bambo Nature disposable nappies and cloth nappies?
In a report commissioned and funded by the UK Environment Agency’s Science Programme into the life cycles of reusable and disposable nappies, the conclusion reached was that “there was no significant difference between any of the environmental impacts - that is, overall no system clearly had a better or worse environmental performance …”
This research was carried out on standard disposable nappies, and thus doesn’t take into account the environmentally friendly manufacturing process of Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies. When you use Bambo and Bambo Nature disposable nappies, you know that you’re making an environmentally friendly choice by choosing a manufacturer who really cares about the environment.
Many of our customers use cloth nappies at home and Bambo and Bambo Nature disposables for childcare, daytrips, at night or on holidays.
If you are interested in using cloth nappies, we are now stocking the Mother-ease all in one cloth nappies. See below for further information on cloth nappies and how easy they are to use.
Please see our links page for a link to the full UK Environment Agency report.
Around 75% of a Bambo and Bambo Nature nappy is biodegradable, compared to around 35% for a standard disposable.
Many consumers make the mistake of thinking that the biodegradability of a product is the most important factor in making a product environmentally friendly. While this is important, the reality is that the vast majority of nappies end up in landfill. Landfill is anaerobic (meaning that there is no light and air which is necessary to the decomposition process), so the nappies are going to break down very slowly. Indeed, archaeologists in London found a banana skin in a rubbish dump dated to 1460!
Any nappy that claims to be biodegradable is only biodegradable if it is composted, not if it is thrown into landfill. As with any claims to 'green' credentials, you should ensure that the manufacturers can actually prove that the nappy is biodegradable. Ask the manufacturer to show you the results of product tests carried out by independent bodies. The Nordic Swan Eco Label is an independent body that can show the results of tests carried out by independent laboratories.
This makes the environmental impact of the manufacturing process so important in considering the ‘cradle to grave’ eco footprint of the nappy you choose.
You can reduce the eco footprint of your Bambo and Bambo Nature disposable nappy even further, by composting. By composting your nappy and removing the non-biodegradable parts, you will reduce the volume of waste going into landfill. Please note that you should only compost wet nappies in a home compost.
You can compost the nappies in two ways. Place the whole of the nappy into your compost bin, let the biodegradable parts break down, and then remove the non-biodegradable parts before you spread the compost on your garden. You can also separate the core of the nappy from the outer layer and place the biodegradable core into your compost bin. The outer can then go into your rubbish bin, and having removed the bulk, you're contributing a lot less to landfill. Although there are no environmentally harmful ingredients in Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies, we wouldn't recommend that you use this compost on vegetables or herbs (this also goes for compost that has newspaper or any printed matter in it).
Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies are recyclable by a specialist nappy recycler, such as My Planet in Melbourne (who services are, unfortunately, currently suspended) or at specialist plants such as the Global Renewables recycling plant in Eastern Creek, NSW, where the innovative UR-3R Process (Urban Resource – Reduction, Recovery and Recycling) is used. Please go to our links page to see more on both of these companies. You can also incinerate Bambo and Bambo Nature nappies, as there are no environmentally harmful ingredients in the nappies to be released into the atmosphere. Indeed there is a specialist nappy incinerator in The Netherlands, where the energy is then fed back into the grid.
